  • Experience

2008-2009: Software Engineer, CARE (pvt ltd), Pakistan

Worked as software design engineer at the Centre for Advance Research in Engineering (CARE), Islamabad, Pakistan. I worked as a part of a competitive team on a multi million project for a security organization. The project involved the analysis of all internet traffic in Pakistan for security purposes. During this period, I worked on several major modules of the project. My responsibilities were:

    • Analyse and reverse engineering various key communication protocols for instance IMAP, POP3, proprietary standards used by Yahoo (and YMSG), Gmail, Microsoft’s Hotmail & MSN etc.
    • Design modules to interpret and reassemble the information communicated via these
    • Development of techniques for identification of dangerous/malicious content using predefined network filters over high bandwidth data
    • Through successful coordination and team work the project deliverables were completed within the specified time span of the

2009 to date: Assistant Professor., Software Engineering Department, University of Engineering and Technology Mardan, Pakistan.

Working as lecturer (2009- 2016) and as Assistant Professor since September, 2016 at the Department of Computer Software Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Mardan Campus, Pakistan. The campus was upgraded to an independent university in 2018 so from 2018 onwards I am an employee of the University of Engineering & Technology Mardan, Pakistan.

Over the years, I taught courses such as Introduction to Programming, Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures & Algorithms, Introduction to Software Engineering, Introduction to Databases & Software Quality Engineering at the undergraduate level. At the Postgraduate level, I have been teaching Software Testing & Quality Assurance, Software Project Management, Service-Oriented Software Architecture, Internet of Things and the latest course I have taught is Blockchain Technologies.

Apart from the basic responsibility to teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching, I have been performing the following additional duties at the Department and University level.

    MS and PhD Supervision:

Since 2016, I have been supervising students at MS and PhD level. Currently, I have graduated 6 MS student while 2 are in the process of finalizing their MS thesis.

Two of my PhD students have successfully completed their degree. The first one defended his thesis titled “Resource Management for Scalable Edge Computing”, on 17th June 2022. The PhD student has published 4 impact factor journals from his work on scalability and optimization framework for cloud computing in resource scarce edge nodes of IoT implementation.

My second PhD student defended his thesis titled “A Framework for Ensuring Information Credibility in the Digital Preservation Process”, on 14th December 2023. This work also resulted in 3 impact factor publications with 2 more in the pipeline.

1 PhD and 2 MS students are currently working under my supervision at the Department of Computer Software Engineering, UET Mardan. The PhD student is working on the application of federated learning architecture for the optimization of energy utilization in residential buildings while preserving privacy of the inhabitants.

2016 Onwards: OBE Program Team Member at Software Engineering Department.

Since 2017, I have been performing the duties of Program Team Member (PTM) for the implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE) system in the Department. based on Washington Accord. For this purpose, I have acquired OBE training offered by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), the regulatory authority for all engineering programs in the country. In 2021, our department secured OBE level-II accreditation from PEC.

    2018 - 2020: Director Admissions, UET Mardan.

With the upgradation of UET Mardan campus, a satellite campus of UET Peshawar, to an independent public sector engineering university, UET Mardan, I was assigned the additional role of Director Admissions to manage all the admissions related activities at undergraduate and graduate levels. I am honoured to have successfully conducted the admissions of the first two batches of UET Mardan.

2020-Onwards: Semester Coordinator, Deptt: of Software Engg, UET Mardan.

Since Fall 2020, I have been fulfilling the responsibilities of Semester Coordinator for the undergraduate program at the department.
